Competitive Lawn Bowls

At Glass House Country Bowls Club, we host competitive lawn bowls for Men, Ladies and Mixed Pairs on Thursday afternoons, as well as Saturday and mid-week Men’s, Ladies’ or Mixed Sponsored Days scattered throughout the year, and Sunshine Coast District GR8 and Pennant Competitions each once a year.

Competitive bowls are a great way to socialise and exercise with people from all walks of life and age groups living and working in our local Glass House area. With the bowls green located at Club Glass House, our bowls club members have access to full bar and restaurant facilities during opening hours, either before or after bowls games.

Bowls Queensland members visiting from other clubs are welcome to join us for our social days. Please write your name down on any of the sheets open for upcoming bowls days in the Bowls office during Club Glass House opening hours.

Glass House Country Bowls Club has a long and successful history dating back to 1936. We currently have active bowlers aged from nine years old to 90 years young. We welcome new and experienced bowlers alike to join our friendly, family- and community-focused bowls club, that—with the strong and ongoing relationship with Club Glass House—will continue to be 'The Boutique Bowls Club' on the Sunshine Coast for many years to come.

Junior Lawn Bowls

Glass House Country Bowls Club has a Sunshine Coast District leading Junior Bowls program. Junior boys and girls are aged up to 18yrs old and are introduced to the game of bowls via organised and structured after school coaching sessions, conducted by the club’s QLD Bowls qualified coaches.

Lawn bowls is an inclusive and family-oriented outdoor sport that offers all juniors an opportunity to play in singles or team events on a social or competitive basis. Juniors are an important focus for our bowls club, with all senior ladies’ and men’s members very supportive of our junior program and actively involved as coaches, team managers and bowling “mentors” whenever they can to assist our junior members. Parents are encouraged to attend coaching and playing events where possible and are often regularly active as spectators and supporters of all our junior members.

Glass House Country Bowls Club conducts an Annual Junior Bowls Carnival during the school holidays in June. This carnival is a highly attended event with a full green of up to 50 junior bowlers. It is widely regarded as one of the most well-organised Junior events in Queensland, with many QLD Junior Bowls representatives playing each year. Most of our club juniors also play with our senior members in Club Team and Singles Championships and travel to play in regular Junior Carnivals held at other clubs throughout the Sunshine Coast and Southeast Queensland.

Junior bowlers are very welcome to "have a go" at bowls and enjoy the friendship and outdoor activity that bowls offer at our club in an inclusive and family-friendly environment. There is no doubt that juniors playing bowls are the future of not only our club, but the future of the sport nationally, and parents and junior bowlers are very welcome anytime at Glass House Country Bowls Club.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What attire should I wear while playing bowls?

To play socially, you don’t need specific sportswear; any comfortable attire will do. As for bowls footwear, flat-soled shoes or going barefoot is recommended.

  • Can I hurt myself in playing bowls?

Since bowls is a non-contact sport, it is unlikely for you to hurt or injure yourself while playing. Just be sure to wear comfortable attire and strictly follow game instructions to avoid accidents.

  • How do you win at lawn bowls?

The first player to get 21 shots, as decided by a scoring committee, will be declared as the winner. The goal is to deliver bowls closer to the jack than your opponent to earn points.
